On Thursday 10 January Cessna Aircraft Company announced that the Citation M2 has commenced its initial production run in the company's Independence, Kansas facility. The front and aft cabin assemblies for the light business jet are built at Cessna’s Wichita, Kansas facility and are then transported to Independence for final assembly and delivery.

Cessna Aircraft Company announced the signing of its intent to acquire Jet Aviation’s maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facilities in Zurich, Switzerland and Düsseldorf, Germany, further expanding Cessna’s global service centre footprint. Both facilities began operating as Cessna Citation Service Centers on 1 January 2013. Jet Aviation will continue operating its FBO facilities at both locations.

This occurs when moisture from the air and products of combustion combine to attack cylinder walls and bearing surfaces during periods when the aircraft is not used. On Wednesday 8 August; Comair Sales based at Lanseria International Airport handed over five brand new Cessna 172s to AIFA-A VIC International Flight Training Academy. The team of eight AIFA instructors, Willie Marias (AIFA director) and AIFA shareholder and CEO Jean Rossouw flew the new Cessnas back to Oudtshoorn on Thursday 9 August, where they were immediately placed into training service.

On Monday 11 June NetJets announced that it has ordered up to 425 midsize business jets from Cessna and Bombardier, a deal worth up to $9.6 billion, which the company said is the 'largest private aviation order in history.' The deal includes firm orders for 100 jets from Bombardier - 75 of the Challenger 300 model and 25 Challenger 605 jets and 25 Citation Latitudes from Cessna.

Cessna's new Citation M2, announced less than six months ago, made its first prototype flight on Friday 9 March. The flight lasted a little more than an hour and a half and included tests of the avionics system, autopilot, engine system, aircraft systems and instrument approaches. The prototype took off and landed at Wichita, Kansas Mid-Continent Airport (ICT) where Cessna’s main manufacturing facility is located. “I am excited to say the aircraft performance, handling characteristics and Garmin G3000 avionics were exceptional, just as we had anticipated,” said Peter Fisher, Cessna’s engineering test pilot who flew the Citation M2. “With this essential programme milestone complete, we are looking forward to a successful flight test program and FAA certification so our customers can soon enjoy this great aircraft.”

Cessna Aircraft Company announced early in February that it has increased the range capability of its planned new midsize jet, the Citation Latitude. The Latitude is now expected to have a maximum range of 2,300 nautical miles (4,259.6 kilometers). “Our customers asked, we answered,” said Trevor Esling, Vice President, sales – Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia (EMAA). “The increased range will give the aircraft more flexibility to fly a wider variety of missions and meet our customer requirements for comfort and performance. McCauley delivers first production 1L100 fixed-pitch composite propeller
Last month McCauley Propeller Systems delivered its first production ASTM certified 1L100 fixed-pitch composite propeller. This two-blade fixed-pitch all composite propeller has been specifically designed for the Cessna 162 Skycatcher’s Continental Motors O-200D engine. The 1L100 is now in serial production at the McCauley manufacturing plant in Columbus and became standard equipment on the Skycatcher beginning with serial number 108. The composite propeller will be offered to existing Model 162 owners for retrofit.

First prototype flight of the Cessna Stationair 15 years ago
The model 206T turbo Stationair was featured at the AOPA Aviation Summit in Hartford fifteen years since the 206 prototype’s first flight. Since its first flight in 1996, the Stationair has been used for a variety of missions by a diverse group of customers including executives and professionals to further business efforts. The Stationair is widely used for transporting people and cargo in the wilderness environment within the sub-continent of Africa, especially within Botswana game reserve regions.

Cessna Skycatcher programme update
At the AOPA Aviation Summit in Hartford Cessna said it has surpassed 100 deliveries of the Model 162 Skycatcher light sport aircraft. The milestone 100th aircraft was delivered to Sporty’s Pilot Shop this summer and will be given away in Sporty’s annual drawing early next year. Cessna began deliveries of the Skycatcher in December 2009 and has received orders for more than 1,000 of the aircraft.

Dave was re-appointed as the Service Manager at Comair five months ago, having returned to his roots after several years working for other aviation service organisations. Civilians deliver Skylanes to Afghanistan
It was an unforgettable flight. Carl Gustafson, a First Officer with Jet Blue Airways out of Long Beach and a volunteer at Flabob Airport, got a little more excitement than he anticipated in flying a Cessna Skylane to Shindand, Afghanistan. Gustafson was one of a flight of three that helped launch a new Afghan Air Force. He was joined by professional ferry pilot Brian Quindt and retired Delta pilot, Jeff Hall, who also flew Cessna Skylanes halfway around the world. The three Cessna T182T’s will be used as primary trainers by the Afghans. They will eventually be joined by three other T182T’s and 28 Grand Caravans, all part of an $88.5 million U.S. grant to the Afghan military. This marks the first time Afghanistan has had its own flight training operation.

Cessna launches new light Business Jet: Citation M2
During the latter part of September Cessna launched the Citation M2, a new light business jet that fills the gap between the Citation Mustang and the Citation CJ family. The Citation M2 features Garmin G3000 avionics, engines similar to those found in the Citation CJ series and an all-new cabin design. Cessna announces ‘game-changing’ Citation Latitude
At the NBAA last month Cessna Aircraft Company introduced the new Citation Latitude mid-size business jet. This is Cessna’s second new product announcement in the past month; the company launched the Citation M2 light business jet on 26 September. With space for a crew of two plus up to eight passengers, the Citation Latitude features Garmin G5000 avionics and a clean-sheet, 84-inch fuselage for a 6-foot high, flat floor passenger cabin. It also features Pratt & Whitney Canada PW306D FADEC controlled turbofan engines.

The following are announcements made at the 64th National Business Aviation Association annual meeting at the Las Vegas Convention Centre held during the first week of October: New Citation M2 light business jet made its public debut when a cabin mock-up was presented at the Cessna show stand along with the entire line of current production business jets. Cessna’s Clairity™ cabin technology system provides an industry leading, intuitive cabin experience. The Clairity cabin technology system was on display inside the Citation Ten and Citation M2 mock-ups at the Cessna exhibit.
